Despite all of there disadvantages, the bulldogs pulled off becoming a true underdog team. I also really liked this book because the coach of the team, who was a former star football player before his dreams were shattered when he severely injured his knee, got the chance to get back on the field and coach the team to victory.

It was about a football team that had no money. Will tried to find a way to get a coach uniforms and players.
He wrote a letter to New balance. The owner decided he would sponsor there team. New Balance bought them cleats helmets pads and jerseys.
I didn't like it because Will sounded selfish at some points. Will was selfish when he wouldn't let a girl play with them at first.

They didn't seem good at first. They eventually played good. They went on to win the championship.
Nov 03, Samuel Gerend rated it it was ok. In the book, "The Underdogs" there is a lot of fight from kids. They show how they want to be champions and want to win everything.
I thought this was different because in middle school I would think it would be for fun. This book to me wasn't very interesting because it is shown toward the audience of middle schoolers.
However, the book shows that kids love to play football. I like how it really gets into the minds of the players and shows what they think about the game, their life, or football In the book, "The Underdogs" there is a lot of fight from kids.
I like how it really gets into the minds of the players and shows what they think about the game, their life, or football in general.
I didn't like how it is childish, to me it was. Overall, I didn't find the book very good, but it was okay. I would recommend this book to younger audiences, lower than high school.
Aug 14, Jake Delossantos rated it it was amazing. The Underdogs, one of my favorite sports books of all time. Mike Lupica captures many athletes dream of being those who rise to the top and win, overcoming any challenges that stand in the way.
In Underdogs, many of those challenges arise from off the field, rather than on. From the ground-up, Will Tyler does not let anything stop him.
Embarassment, is what Will fears more than injury. Through his mistakes, Will only finds himself getting better and better. This inspirational story is one that a The Underdogs, one of my favorite sports books of all time.
This inspirational story is one that all athletes should read. While it is enjoyable, it could also teach discipline and that you have to make mistakes, to succeed.

Oct 26, Connor rated it it was ok. Now that I've read this book more i think that i liked the million dollar throw more because, it was more interesting and it made you wanna read more, as of this book it actually kinda boring in some parts, it was better in the beginning when you were getting to know the characters.
The Underdogs is a good book if the reader is in middle school and if the reader likes football. The book did not have an expansive use of vocab words.
It did, however, have good descriptions of character and the environment around them. I would not recommend this book to anyone in high school or older unless the reader has a lower reading level.
I would recommend this book to any middle school aged boy that either enjoys playing football or is interested in the sport.

I would recommend this book to any sports fan because everybody likes underdogs. May 11, Micah Bryant rated it it was amazing.
The book is about a kid named Will Tyler, which is the main character throughout the story. He had a huge passion for football. Which prevented Will from playing football 7th grade.
This reminds of when my 5th grade football team in my hometown Norristown had lost plenty of money.
He was having bad flashbacks from the final play of the previous state championship game. When Will running and about to score a touchdown, fumbled causing his team to lose to their biggest rivals Castle Rock.
The team had no money for equipment, not enough people to play, and also no coach. He played football since he was kid. He was a big time player, but he injured his knee during his final game in High school.
The injury was so bad that he never played football again. Will talked a lot about wanting to make his father proud in this book, I believe Will got a lot of his passion for football from his Dad.
Hannah, Toby, and Ben were other characters that were involved in this book. Hannah was the only girl on the football team, but she was fast and could catch.
She also reminded me of a girl named Katie Baber who played football on my 8th grade team. He came up with an idea to write to companies and ask them if they could donate money and sponsor there football team.
He wrote to multiple sports companies Nike, Under armour, and Adidas none of them responded. Will did not give up hope.
It would take a miracle for them to get a sponsor. But suddenly, Will came up with a company. Will liked New Balance and he always wore there cleats in football games.
So Will wrote to New Balance hoping they would donate money to get there football team back. After 2 days Will began to finally lose some hope.
Whenever Will got upset in the story he said he would to his backyard with a football in his hand and just run, imagining that he was running away from defenders.
What I liked a lot about the book was that it was in first person, which made me feel like I was actually Will himself.
Later Will checked his email and it was from New Balance. He was so surprised and happy when he read it. New Balance in the email said that they would sponsor their team and buy them new cleats, helmets, and uniforms.
Now that Will had a team all he needed was 11 players and a coach. Will knew exactly the kids to go to for the team.
Now he needed 3 more players and an Coach in just one week. Later on in the chapter Will asked 3 athletic kids at his school Randy, Tyler, and Michael.
They all knew how good Will was at football so they wanted to join the team. I liked this part of the book because it showed how bad Will wanted to play football, and his love for the game.
He reminded me of how much I love football, and if I was Will I would have done the same thing. Will was upset they had faced the 3 hardest teams in the league.
There are 12 games in the season and the Forbes Flyers won 9 games in a row. With an record of the Forbes Flyers had the second best record in the county.
Which meant they were going to the State Championship for the second straight year. And they were facing their state rivals Castle Rock. Will still remembered that game like it was yesterday.
Castle Rock were beating them , but Will scored 3 touchdowns in the second half helping them win After reading this book it has to be one of the best sports books I have ever read.
With a concise, unsympathetic tone, Azuela takes us along with this band of outcasts as they move along the hills of the country, seemingly struggling for a cause whose leader changes from day to night.
The rebels, not very certain of what or whom they are fighting for, practice the abuse and injustice they used to suffer in the hands of the old leaders.
He has forebodings of his destiny, and the last scene of the book leaves him firing his rifle with deathly accuracy, alone and extremely outnumbered by his enemies.
